Critical illness

Critical problems demand crucial assistance – utilize our Critical Illness cover for your and your family’s added protection.

Critical Illness Cover is suitable for people who are concerned that they may not be able to meet their financial commitments or maintain a reasonable lifestyle if diagnosed with a critical illness.

If the policyholder is diagnosed with a medical condition listed within the policy document, the Takaful Company will make a lump sum cash payment to the policyholder, regardless of their life expectancy.

The most common illnesses included are cancer, heart attack, stroke, traumatic head injury and total permanent disablement.

Consideration should also be given to the fact that a large number of people will recover following diagnosis of a Critical Illness, which will result in a claim, and the sum assured being paid.  They may continue to lead a long, healthy lifestyle, whilst knowing their mortgage liability or other financial commitments or burdens are now taken care of, due to the lump sum payment.  Therefore, they may not require to continue working, or they will have the option to reduce their hours, or even change their occupation, to suit their new lifestyle.

What is Critical Illness?

Critical illness cover is an insurance product in which the insurer is contracted to typically make a lump sum cash payment if the policyholder is diagnosed with one of the specific illnesses, on a predetermined list, as part of an insurance policy.

How is Critical Illness better cover for protection against major illnesses than medical cover?

Under Critical Illness, once the member is diagnosed with one of the listed illnesses, the entire amount is paid as an advance before the start of treatment, unlike medical cover, where reimbursement is made to the policy holder when bills are submitted.

Why should I buy Critical Illness plan?

Critical illness cover pays for the following:

  • Cost(s) of care and/or treatment;
  • Recuperation aids;
  • Outstanding financial liabilities, typically mortgage; and
  • Unpaid respite time, whilst recovering from ill-health.

What major illnesses are covered under this plan?

  • Heart attack;
  • Coronary artery bypass;
  • Stroke;
  • Multiple sclerosis;
  • Parkinson’s disease;
  • Paralysis of limbs;
  • Kidney failure;
  • Major organ transplant;
  • Chronic end stage liver failure;
  • Permanent blindness; and
  • Cancer in situ.

How does the policyholder benefit from buying this cover?

The benefit of this cover is:

  1. Receiving upfront payment of entire sum assured, even before the start of treatment;
  2. Reduces financial stress;
  3. Option of treatment anywhere in the world; and
  4. Receiving assistance to plan for other crucial matters for self and family.

Does the policyholder have to do any medical tests before taking this scheme?

No, members do not have to perform any tests at hospital; only simple health declaration proposal form is required to be completed by the applicant.

What is the difference between Critical Illness and Terminal Illness?

Terminal Illness Insurance only pays the benefit where the life expectancy is less than 12 months at diagnosis, whereas Critical Illness Cover would typically make a lump sum payment if the policyholder is diagnosed with one of the critical illnesses listed in the insurance policy.

What is the age limit?

The attained age of a participant should be between 18 and 59 years at application (age next birthday). The policy will cease once the participant attains 60 years of age.

What is the Territorial limit in Critical Illness plan?

There is no territorial limit; it can be availed worldwide.

How does one apply for this Critical Illness cover?

A simple medical proposal form needs to be filled and signed/dated to initiate the cover.
